FAQ

What technical maturity is ideal?

Because Chevron is interested in identifying next-generation approaches, solutions will ideally be between TRL 0 – 3. Furthermore, proposed solutions should have a path to pilot-scale field evaluation.

We still encourage solutions with TRLs above 3; however, this Challenge primarily focuses on earlier-stage solutions.

Are international submissions eligible for consideration?

Yes, international submissions are welcome. Please consult this link for a list of ineligible countries.

Can I submit more than one response?

Yes, if you have more than one in-scope solution, please consider submitting a response for each. Be sure to keep each response sufficiently distinct.

Who owns the IP if I engage with Chevron through this Challenge?

A submission to this Challenge does not invalidate any IP rights you may have over the proposed technology, as all submission information must be non-confidential and non-proprietary. Questions related to IP ownership will be discussed jointly between the winners and Chevron beginning this June.

When will engagement with Chevron begin?

Chevron will begin direct discussions with up to three (3) winners in June 2026.

Are academic labs or national research labs eligible to participate?

Yes, we encourage non-commercial research labs to submit responses to this Challenge. Researchers interested in collaborating with Chevron should share information regarding how the technology could be brought to commercial readiness: i.e. spun out to a standalone company, licensed to a third-party technology developer, etc.
